Russell Crowe’s First Interview Ever
posted by Ana Samways at 3:33 pmBack in the day, when kiwi lad Russell Crowe was 20 year-old Russ Le Roq, this photo and interview appeared in the January 1985 issue of the New Zealand Woman’s Weekly. In what must be his very first encounter with the media, Le Roq show similar, er…confidence in his musical abilities as he does here in the Sydney Morning Herald story last month.

I back Simon up on that. In the early 80’s, when I was at high school in Auckland, Russell was a big heart- throb with the girls. I recall much screaming going on when he played at our school.

And who can forget Le Roq and his staunch performance as one the Greasers in New Independent Theatre’s production of ‘Grease’, end of 1984 IIRC.
He drove all the old theatre queens wild by insisting on having a red hanky hanging out of a back pocket of his jeans – ‘Does he know what that MEANS..?’ they lamented…

Lisa, I recall a lot of screaming at his CURRENT gigs, but for a totally different reason….
