“I Have It Right Here…”
posted by Ana Samways at 9:01 pm
This is an actual desk, in an actual newsroom, worked at each day by a highly productive journalist. Health & Safety issues became a concern to management, and an excavation was ordered. The anonymous journalist allowed me to photograph his ’system’ before it was deconstructed and cleaned by a brave (albeit rubber-gloved) editorial assistant.

One night, the newsroom I worked in many years ago was burgled. The police were called and advised us that the raiders had wrecked the place completely – it would, they said, take weeks to sort out. When we got there, it was no different to how it had been left by the last shift, all of it looking a bit like your picture. I thought computers had tidied newsrooms up – obviously not much has changed.

[...] Our very good friends at Random-Good-Stuff.com are having a competition where people take pictures of their desks at work and someone sent in the above picture. Thought it was worth posting for the sheer weight of paper which must be on this desk. It was originally posted on Ana’s Blog with the following note: This is an actual desk, in an actual newsroom, worked at each day by a highly productive journalist. Health & Safety issues became a concern to management, and an excavation was ordered.
