Borat

With the anniversary of September 11th behind him and Iraq ticking along nicely, President Bush focuses on a new threat – a fictional character named Borat.

British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen’s new film “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan”, takes unrelenting piss out of Kazakhstan. As Borat, Cohen has subsequently suggested that “women can now travel on inside of bus, homosexuals no longer have to wear blue hats, and age of consent has been raised to eight years old.”

Bush is to host White House talks on the British comedian with Kazakhstan president Nursultan Nazarbayev, who is buying up ads in the US to promote the “real Kazakhstan” in a bid to counter the Cohen’s film due for release in the US in November.

Cohen’s representatives refused to allow him or his alter ego to respond to the controversy because it’s not close enough to the film’s release date. Full story at the Daily Mail.

Watch trailer here. There are NZ preview screenings coming up soon.

It’s a buyer’s market according to the High Times. The price of street drugs in the UK is at an all-time low. Cannabis resin sold for an average of £43 per ounce last year, down from 2004’s figure of £45 – and a big drop from the 1994 average price of £120 per ounce. Cocaine, sold for around £44 a gram. Britain’s continuing “pill-popping” culture, particularly in its clubs, is indicated by the falling price of an ecstasy tablet, which is usually bought for less than £3. Amphetamines are also down in price, and cost an average of £9 a gram.

BBC news staff relieved a bit of stress by making a spoof video of the conflicts in the Middle East. The video shows them wearing tea towels and fake beards, cavorting in front of a news footage backdrop of tanks, missile launchers and soldiers in gas masks. It was shown at a staff leaving party, but the video was leaked to the London’s Evening Standard newspaper.

Hoping to send some flowers I went searching for a florist on Ferrit.co.nz. The top search result? A CD called Relapse Morbid Florist by an artist called An*l C*nt – which might surprise a few shoppers looking for half a dozen chrysanthemums and a sprig of gypsophila.
