Saucey Campaign: Landmine Awareness
posted by Steven Shaw at 9:09 am
To open this tomato sauce sachet you will have to rip a child’s foot off and watch the blood-like condiment ooze out. A gruesome but nifty idea for the New Zealand Campaign Against Landmines (CALM) who are fundraising to clear Lebanon of explosive nasties.
Sachets have been distributed to Fish ‘n Chip shops and cafes throughout the country and Kiwis can donate $3 by texting the word, “CALM”, to 336.

Anyone know how long this has been around? Was touted as a new campaign on One news…

Was I the only one who thought it was a bit like that SPCA ad – worthy cause, clever concept bound to get attention, but… just on the cusp of being really, really tasteless? ‘The Sam Peckinpah’s Salad Days’ sketch from Monty Python crossed my mind, which wasn’t the intended effect I hope.
Still, I’ll give CALM a donation and say Spare Room sent me.

I love NZ because people are not afraid to produce things like this. It is designed to make people stop and think about the absolute horror of landmine. GOOD FOR YOU!!

I’m not sure how long it has been around, but FYI it was also featured in last months Idealog magazine, amongst a bunch of award winning kiwi advertising success stories.

More interested in how long the campaign has been active – rather than in the awards. Which came first anyway? The awards or the actual distribution of the sachets?

Brilliant, was struck for a moment by how simple yet clearly inspiring this is, it makes you stop for a second and ponder why you haven’t send your money yet…

I think I would reconsider eating fish and chips and use the money saved as my donation!

I’ve seen this used somewhere overseas, UK I think? But it’s very clever.

Clever, makes the point… now wait until the campaign for safe oceans does one with the head of a poor halibut being ripped off to make the delightful “fish and chips” being eaten…
