Asylum Street Spankers

The Asylum Street Spankers are a jazz/country/blues novelty act who use the power of parody and song and often hang it on issues of major importance. In the following YouTube clip, they have a dig at the war in Iraq and its close association with America’s gas-guzzling SUVs, using the melody from Tony Orlando and Dawn’s song “Tie A Yellow Ribbon”.

On their website they’re careful to state:

While we think the video and song speak for themselves, the Spankers preemptively state that current and former members of our band are veterans of the military, we support American troops and we love our country, especially its Constitution and Bill of Rights, but also its movies, music, whiskey and regional cuisine. Now go watch it, pass it on to your political enemies and leave a scathing comment.
