X-Men Comics Artist Dies In Superman Jammies
posted by Steven Shaw at 2:42 pm
X-Men artist Dave Cockrum, co-creator of characters such as Storm, Mystique, Nightcrawler and Colossus died on Sunday, according to an Associated Press story published today. The details are curious to say the least: Cockrum, 65, died at his South Carolina home after a long battle with diabetes and related complications. He was found sitting in his favourite chair, dressed in Superman pyjamas and wrapped in a Batman blanket. A family member says he will be cremated in a Green Lantern shirt.
Cockrum got his big break in the early 1970s, drawing the Legion of Super-Heroes for DC Comics before moving to Marvel, where along with writer Len Wein, they introduced new characters to the X-Men stable in 1975, totally reviving the title and turning it into a publishing hit.
