A Perth driver had a heavy session at the Windsor pub then took off from the petrol station, losing control of his $300K Ferrari and sliding straight into the traffic light pole.

The driver was breathalysed and arrested. Because of the drink driving charge his insurance would be null and void. Picture after the jump…

Change the headline and consider it blasphemy to confuse the two brands.

    Merry Xmas

Sheesh, the prickly one is right. It’s a Ferrari…will leave the headline as a nod to her superior luxury car knowledge…I really wanted to describe it as a “red car”…

Not that I’m an expert or anything, but is that a legit photo? I’ve seen a number of cars vs traffic light poles, and the poles normally come off worse – with that much damage to the car, you’d expect the pole to be flat on the ground wouldn’t you?

  • Ana says:

It was sent out by Land Transport New Zealand’s Andy Knackstead as a “don’t drink and drive” me4ssage, so I figure it’s not a crock. Will find out.

According to this aussie report news.com.au item on the crash

“Witnesses said the driver revved the Italian stallion at the lights next to the Windsor Hotel, at the intersection of Mends Street and Mill Point Rd, dropped the clutch and burned off around the corner – but humiliatingly lost control and slammed into the pole around 7pm.”

So would have been a resonably low speed crash, looks like it totalled the body panels, but once the pole got to the axles it stopped ( the engine is at the back)

  • Scott says:

No engine in the front of this car, so damage will be worse than for a standard car. This car was not going particularly fast at point of impact. To see what this sort of car looks like after a high-speed crash visit http://www.wreckedexotics.com

Cheers and compliments of the season!

Exactly why expensive European cars look so damned good wrapped around poles… they hug them so well.

  • Scott says:

Cheap japanese ones can look good wrapped around poles too…..

  • Hamish says:

Also they have carbon fibre shells – means that even though it looks bad, they’ll just knock the chassis back together, put a new shell on it and drive it away. What a dick though.

We walked by this pole at Christmas time and it had a sign on the pole “Ferrai parking here”. We thought it was an advertising sign until we were told about the incident.
