black sheep

The movie trailer for New Zealand film Black Sheep is slaughtering it on the web but its audience is left wondering if the movie is for real or a spoof. But all the discussion is good ‘gristle’ for the publicity mill.

The film, directed by Jonathan King is set on a sheep station in New Zealand, where a reckless genetic engineering experiment goes horribly wrong, turning sheep into bloodthirsty killers. (A chance ingestion of P by said sheep would’ve made it a truly authentic kiwi story)

The YouTubed version of the trailer is in Technorati’s most linked to web videos this week and has generated pages and pages of comments on discussion forum throughout the blogosphere.

Web Junk TV says: “Snakes on a Plane” meet what amounts to “Sheep on a Farm”…This Black Sheep is a thriller from New Zealand (the other Down Under) which is slated for release there in late March. The clip has all the feel of a fake trailer, but it’s not. And we don’t think anyone would waste so much money and talent on something this fake, but it’s the web so you never know right?”

And here are some of the punter comments for your reading pleasure:

Some YouTuber says: “Only in New Zealand do they have only sheep to use as the animal basis of their horror film, and then have the balls to do it.”

Another is laughing his guts out: “The premise of sheep that want to kill is so mad, it will be a cult for sure. You’ll be laughing as fast as you can scream.”

A Technorati punter can’t believe it…”Oh god I hope the movie actually exists! This is so hilarious! “The violence of the lambs!!!”

And some local buff says: “These are some really pissed off badly animated sheep! This one rightly looks right at home next Peter Jacksons Bad Taste and Braindead…”

Well, the mystification is mututal: Why would anyone want to spend vast amounts of money on glossy but cretinous remakes of every half-decent J-horror and 70’s slasher flick, not to mention that WEli Roth and the Saw-tards have careers rather than padded cells.

I think it looks super. I’m going to see it.

P.S. Thanks ever-so-much for the link. You are too kind.
