Warming Island

posted by Steven Shaw at 2:25 pm

Never mind the icebergs floating past your office window down south — the effects of climate change are clear in this video footage of a new island that has broken away from a peninsula in Greenland. It’s from a forthcoming documentary called Warming Island, by Eric Ristau, a filmmaker from Salt Lake City, Utah. The island was discovered by American explorer Dennis Schmitt, who has completed more than 100 expeditions over 40 years in the Arctic. Schmitt, who speaks Inuit, named it Uunartoq Qeqertoq — Warming Island. It’s beautiful, tranquil, and a little unsettling.
