On The Road Again: In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the release of Jack Kerouac’s On The Road, book publisher Viking is printing the original version that Kerouac typed on a 120-foot-long scroll. The Femmes get violent: Violent Femmes bassist Brian Ritchie sued lead vocalist Gordon Gano this week, claiming he was deprived credit for some of the group’s songs. He also accuses Gano of trashing the band’s reputation by allowing “Blister in the Sun” to be used in a Wendy’s commercial. Aah, if he had one dollar for every keg of beer emptied to that tune…

Rest easy folks: No Radiohead album until next year…

Local band Surf City released their debut self-titled EP this week. The four-piece band, which came together after meeting at a party in Mt Roskill, manages to harness the classic Flying Nun jangle without sounding retro. Check it out and/or buy it here or here

You Caught Me Smiling Again, Again: Sly Stone’s recent comeback performance at Rotterdam’s North Sea Jazz Festival had the crowd divided, mainly because his appearance was very brief — he only sang two-and-a-half songs. But going by this YouTube footage, which includes “If You Want Me To Stay” and “Sing A Simple Song”, he’s still pretty fly for an old guy.
