    Really? That’s either one BIG deer or else they don’t eat much meat – which is hard to believe from a hunting family…

    The ‘deer’ is plural, as in more than one. E.g. they shot a lot of deer.

    the word ‘deer’ is both singular and plural. just like the word maori. you can have 1 maori 2 maori, 4 deer, 7 deer…
