Remedy For Restaurateur’s Bruised Ego: Throw your cash at a hate campaign. Stir and watch the punters pile in to your restaurant? Two of the biggest egos in Auckland clashed last week after Restaurateur Richard Sigley (proprietor of Wellington’s Shed 5 and Pravda and Auckland’s Jervois Steak House, Pasha Bar and Euro) had a hissy fit over not making it into Metro’s Auckland’s top 50 Restaurants. Sigley took a full page ad in the Herald on Sunday with a recipe for the “Preparation of Metro Food Critic Testicles” and set up a website where people can moan about Metro magazine. The debate is off to a healthy start, with ‘Anonymous’ — who didn’t have a good Euro experience — being set upon, plus an insider who has created his/her own 20 bitter questions, and the anticipated positive Euro experiences/Metro bashing. A cynic would suggest this is merely a publicity stunt and an innovative way of generating feedback for the restaurant and the magazine. Either that or a bad case of sour (rather than fried) grapes. Spare Room reports that Restaurateur Richard Sigley (proprietor of Wellington’s Shed 5 and Pravda and Auckland’s Jervois Steak House, Pasha Bar and Euro) had a hissy fit over not making it into Metro’s Auckland’s top 50 Restaurants and set up a “Serve Metro” website (promoted with a full-page) newspaper ad for people to come and bitch in the comments section of a blogspot site about the magazine. Hey Richard – maybe if you’d like your restaurants to be viewed in a better light, maybe you’d like to look into Shed 5’s problems with a serious lack of (fresh) soul first… [...]
