It’s 100 years this week since the Wellington to Auckland rail link was finished and while some are busy re-enacting the first journey here is the remarkable footage from 1908, which was just laying around on YouTube. “The Silver Spikeā€ is a six minute film, made in 1958.

    Really interesting.Busy Frankton is now nothing. Pity, but what is called progress.Maybe things may change,I dont see it.

    I was disapointed at not seeing the original video of the rail excursion on u tube. Was there a problem?
