Olympic bad taste: The Spanish Basketball Federation published a good luck advertisement in one of Spain’s largest newspapers before the team headed for Beijing. No one thought making a slant-eyed gesture would be inappropriate. The Guardian has the full story.
Olympic fashion: A snarky but hilarious analysis of the fashion from the Olympic Opening Ceremony (with screen grabs) awards South Africa the “worst Olympic outfit” beause of their lime green crocs. Many of the remaining countries are categorised for their fashion crimes — as Airline Attendants, Fast Food Workers or IBM Employees. Australia however was dubbed a Maxi Pad Commercial: “The problem with fading from light blue to white is you look like those absorbency demonstrations where they show you how effective their pads or diapers are.”

This is what the Aussies said about their uniform “Navy blue on the bottom and gradually fading through lighter hues to peak in a silvery white cap, the Australian team members in Beijing resembled waves bobbing as they strode proudly into the National Stadium.”
They didn’t look like waves to me! They looked like those matching outfits you imagine rich US tourists wear to breakfast on cruise ships.
I love poking fun at the vile outfits countries make their teams wear…but we’re our team in crocs also? The shame!

Well, to be fair, Asutalian gravity would have been working the opposite way for most of these northern hemisphere athletes; let’s cut them some slack.

Just found a site that praised our uniforms. Then again, they also thought the Swiss looked good and I thought their outfits were horrid.

Hehehe. A BSOD at the Olympics. That’s funnier than the green hat the Sierra Leone guy is wearing (if that’s possible!).

Just a point about that montage video – all those gymnasts crashing out on the vault was because the horse was set 10cm too low. It was the major balls up of the 2000 Olympics. I can’t remember if they were given another go after the mistake was discovered. Can anyone else remember?
