Election Debate 2.0

posted by Ana Samways at 10:47 am

It’ll be interesting to see if the following question, submitted for tonight’s One News You Tube Election Debate, makes it to air.

This Grey Lynn greenie, dressed in a polar bear suit and submerged in a swimming pool, bemoans the plight of the polar bear and asks both leaders what they plan to do about the big ice melt and the survival of the threatened Arctic species.

More questions here.

Te Polar Bear answered her own question. Build more swimming pools.

  • Russ says:

Maybe the taxes gathered from the emissions trading scheme could pay for some icemakers??

  • robbie says:

You hope the polar bears could swim better than that…

  • Meth Addict says:

Man the costume shop is gonna be pissed when she returns that outfit.

  • Michael Benjamin says:

Just maybe . If we didn’t have chlorinated swimming pools we wouldn’t have an “ozone hole” to allow the sun to increase the melting of ice.

  • Ty says:

Has the look of a heated pool….

  • Green party says:

It is Jeanette Fitzsimons inside the polar bear suit.

  • Jono says:

Wow! A talking polar bear. Maybe she(?)will run away with Jin (the otter) and form some sort of bizarre lesbian animal sanctuary.

  • Colin says:

when are these loonies going to realise/admit that the world was a lot warmer 6000 years ago and there were polar bears wandering around back then too

  • Polar Bear Dude says:

    Wow, you sexy!

  • Lisa says:

    To Colin-

I suggest that you do some research.

While we all know the earth’s climate moves through a natural cycle (a bit like the economy), scientists are virtually unanimous on the FACT that our observed climate change is anthropogenic and far in excess of what natural fluctuations could produce.

How unfortunate that the polar bear is more clued up on its precarious future than you.

  • Trish says:

    To Lisa

Maybe you do some research. You’re right climate change has happened in the past. However, it was going to happen again with or without humans. We just sped the process up. And the unanimous idea is vauge, the media have more to do with what people know about climate change, anything that doesnt ‘fit’ doesnt get news. Scientists can not say for certain that todays climate change is fully anthropogenic. For that they’d need to know what caused climate change in the past. Which they still can not agree on.
Yes humans have adversly affected the environment but some things are too big to be relagated to the fault of one species. Its nature.

  • ted-e-bear says:

what an un-bear-able situation. i could not bear to watch anymore

  • James says:

I just find myself wondering what she’s wearing under the polar bear suit …

  • Gujal says:

    Yo Polar Bear,
Go Join the Wooly Mammoth, you are long over due. Wooly Mammoth also blamed humans for the climate change

  • John Key's toyboy says:

It’s not Jeanette Fitzsimons it’s Tariana Turia.
