World’s Worst Business Decisions
posted by Ana Samways at 6:16 pmA collection of some of the worlds dumbest business decisions ever made, which includes a few bad calls from Telecom, New Zealand (NSFW – due to a couple of obscured humping scenes and a swear word).

S’quite a funny video. Will we not learn from history?
December 8th, 2008 at 6:51 am
That’s hilarious!

Telecom really are a joke
December 8th, 2008 at 7:44 am
Interestingly enough Telecom’s new network, WCDMA, is the same technology Vodafone are rolling out to replace their GSM network, so clearly whoever wrote this is completely ignorant of the difference between the two.
Pretty poor attempt to make it look like an USA documentary by including a few other items. Does anyone really believe a Doco from the states would include 4 out of 8 items about a NZ company?

I will not visit spareroom again because the above video is just the most revolting piece of advertising. Yuk! I prefer my sources to be upfront.

Advertising requires payment Nicolaas and I can assure you, no payment was made for posting this video. But you probably won’t read this, and therefore keep on believing we sold our soul to some corporate Telecom-hater, because you apparently won’t be visiting spareroom again.

Hey, it might be fake (the credits are ripped from Office Space), but what it’s saying is largely true. Telecom have made some sizable cockups…
December 8th, 2008 at 9:27 am
That is absolutely fantastic! I was working at telecom when some of these changes occured and we thought it was a screw up too… ha ha ha brilliant.
December 8th, 2008 at 9:55 am
It’s not the telecom-hating clip that’s the problem, but that your lead-in from sideswipe implies it’s a legit internationally-sourced doco. It’s obviously not, so it just makes you look like a sucker or a vodafone shill.

Both the networks are shit. And expensive. But telecom has better coverage ’shrug’.
And 3g’s supposed to be faster than the old technologies, for internet use and the like. GSM was developed so long ago it’s like running windows 3.1.
Also, whats this ’should’ve adopted it in 1987′ shit? “Founded in 1988, Oy Radiolinja Ab was the first company in the world to open a GSM network, in 1991.” http://press.nokia.com/PR/200001/775038_5.html
82% of the world hadn’t even heard of GSM at that time.

Yeah, looks like a viral.
Probably from Vodafone, or similar.
Did you get duped into thinking it was a real show?
Easy mistake these days, won’t stop me reading your columns.
A funny video is a funny video, regardless if it is a subversive ad or not.
Might pay to change the heading or the line before the video to tip people off that this is a viral ad.
Love you sites though, keep it coming.

I thought it was a piece of art. Telecom have always made bad decisions it’s about time they faced up to them. They are the largest communcations and internet provider in the country yet they are classed as one of the worst.
December 8th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
Thought Vodafone would have learnt from our recent elections that hate campaigns don’t work. Telecom have better coverage, deals and superior customer service.
December 8th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
It is obviously anti telecom propaganda, probably bankrolled my a competing telco operating in NZ.
I admit some of telecoms decisions have been bad, but some of those decisions where forced on them by the New Zealand government, who wanted two competing technologies, as they believed it would create more competition. Instead it had the oppositie effect.
December 8th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Who cares if it was made by Vodafone or some anti-Telecom nuts? It’s crack up. That’s all that matters.
I don’t know why people feel such loyalty to a company that has no loyalty for them.
Whenever the Telecom Vs Vodafone arguments come up I’m astonished NZers get so precious about which one they “support”.
December 8th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Telecom = company that is largely owned by NZ Mum and Dad investors. A lot of the profit stays in NZ.
Vodafone = Solely offshore owned company, and all profits go offshore.
I know which one I would prefer support.

TNZ decision in late 90’s to go with CDMA was unbelieveable. How could they choose CDMA when GSM had been rolled out all through Europe & Asia? Aside from global roaming GSM also had loads of handsets.
I think WCDMA 850MHz is finally a good decision but time will tell.
December 9th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
Yeah I love it, i have worked for both companies (voda and telecom) and they both suck, Telecom has crap handsets and voda has crap customer service! they BOTH have their downsides and for F%^&k sake, get over yourselves, support whoever gives you (the person) the better deal.
December 9th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
It’s goooone!
Enjoyed it the first time and wanted more.
Any conspiracy theory?
December 9th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
The video is no longer working D:, But i’ve seen it before and its funny as. God HP are retards they would’ve got 2 workers for nothing.
December 10th, 2008 at 11:58 am
Telecom have [...] NZers for too long. They’ve made poor decisions since time began – trying to break into the Australian market was a total mess. I am sure the customers they have ripped off to pay for their cheesy ads would have sooner had decent service instead. Sure, Vodafone is no better, but at least they don’t smile at you while they’re quietly stealing your wallet our of your pocket.
December 11th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
Why so…. serious?
December 20th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
If anyone has a copy/link of the video (I accidently deleted it when updating a few things) I can put the video back on bcast.co.nz (email ) so it will show correctly on here again

I hope someone still has this video, it was so funny
