As the retrial for David Bain, previously convicted of murdering five of his family members begins, an entrepreneur is trying to make some cash by selling supporter T-shirts on Trade Me.

The two styles of T-shirt are designed to look like the infamous bad taste knitted jumpers Bain wore during his arrest in 1994 and include the line, “fashion was the only crime he committed”…

Trade Me’s auction listing reads:

“Inspired by one of the infamous jumpers worn during his original trial. This shirt will not only disprove the thought that David Bain’s jumpers were not-stylie, but will pledge your support for David in this ongoing abhoration of justice…10% of all proceeds will be donated towards helping David Bain’s cause.”

Now 36, Bain pleaded not guilty in the Christchurch court today, in a trial that’s expected to last four months.

No cameras were allowed into the court back in 1995, but this year the legitimate media will have front row seats. After a last minute legal appeal, The Press, the New Zealand Herald, TV3 and Stuff websites were granted permission for video coverage on the internet, but with a delay of 10 minutes after the evidence is given in open court.
