Electrocution and Other Choice Links

Picture this: From a German book 30 Ways to Die of Electrocution, a collection of illustrations showing a number of ways that people can be electrocuted (milking a cow under a lamp, peeing on power lines) and the path that the electricity takes through their bodies.
Food humour: Cake Wreck has a highly amusing array of horse cakes.
Spensive things: Maybe You Shouldn’t Buy That is a site with the most expensive and most worthless items in the world.
Video Link: An instructional video from NZ’s Sky customer service team on how to change the batteries in your Sky remote. Yes, seriously. Apparently they get many, many enquiries about it and their choice of music for the clip indicates that they too know it’s ridiculous)
Marketing overkill: After getting their brand on eggs, Disney are climbing aboard the healthy eating money-maker with 250 products in the “Disney Garden” line, including the Zac Efron avocado .
Fiction: Shatnerquake — a fan novel about William Shatner being hunted down by all his fictional characters. Featuring: Captain Kirk, TJ Hooker, Denny Crane, Rescue 911 Shatner, Singer Shatner, Shakespearean Shatner, Twilight Zone Shatner, Cartoon Kirk, Esperanto Shatner, Priceline Shatner, SNL Shatner.
Film: What they’re saying about the Peter Jackson produced alien flick District 9.
Video: An American cable television channel targeting women is promoting a new series called I Want to Save Your Life. It involves a condescending nutritionist/personal trainer guy stalking overweight women, catching them eating and brainwashing a family member into letting him save them. That’s so fucked-up.

Re Sky remote: I have worked with video equipment for over 20 years using remotes of all shapes, sizes and brands. I have a MySky at home and would have to say that the battery compartment for the remote is the most poorly designed, difficult to access I have ever seen. Trying to figure it out for the first time was very frustrating – compounded by the constant and annoying warning messages on the TV – bad design is the problem.

The promo (teaser) for D9 isn’t particularly enlightening. If you want to see what the movie is based on check out the YouTube movie “Alive in Johburg” by Neill Blomkamp. After watching “Johansburg; Crime & Disorder” on One on Monday night I can see how this movie came to be.

Trying to open the back of my sky remote nearly drove me crazy. It is so completely counter intuitive, so upside-down and back to front that even after though it took more than 20mins to figure it out the first time, I forgot how and had to struggle with it again the next time! I’m no fool, but that thing is a bad design.
