Toto’s Africa Sung A Cappella
posted by Ana Samways at 9:19 pmUplifting and amazing; this performance of Toto’s hit “Africa” by Slovenia’s only jazz choir, Perpetuum Jazzile, is just wonderful. It made my day. Let it make yours.

Brilliant, a little too much harmony in some places but really, really good

This is fantastic – I love it when choirs take on popular songs a cappella – Ben Folds recently challenged American high school and college choirs to do his songs a cappella, submit them on YouTube and have the chance to appear on his new album – the Sacramento State University version of “Selfless, Cold and Composed” jaw-droppingly awesome.

Cool. The lead male singer looks like Frodo (cute)…..

fantastic, thanks for this…it did indeed make my day!!!

Very cool indeed. If I put on my Simon Cowell hat I could say that they were a bit pitchy at certain points, but top marks for the arrangement. Awesome!

Yuck…pathetic effort doesn’t even come close to the original. I hope that David Paich and the rest of Toto never has to hear this travesty.

gamechick: I thought he looked like Toby Maguire!

I thought the rain sound effects and thunder were very clever, but after that it wasn’t that exciting.

Made my Wed.
1. Frodo, a little chubby, but definitely Frodo.
2. Perhaps former eastern block countries are still living in the 80s?
3. What’s with the jumping and finger snapping? To represent elephants stomping around and crickets uh … what is it crickets do … making cricket sounds?

Who needs Jeff Porcaro or Simon Philips when you can beatbox like that?
June 17th, 2009 at 2:09 pm
Oh yeah.
4. White men can’t beatbox.

3. It was a thunderstorm: first drizzle (hands rubbing together) then a shower (clicking the fingers) then rain (slapping the hands on thighs) and then the thunder (jumping on the steel platform).
Yes, very cool – but Slovenia is a really cool place. Even better it’s not overrun with tourists.

@Mark: It’s not your Simon Cowell hat, it’s your Randy Jackson hat. He of the ‘bit pitchy’.
@Daph: crickets? elephants? try rain/thunder! v cool. methinks you were spending too much time analysing and not enough listening!

Well I just like the fact they’ve managed to co-ordinate their wardrobes so they sort of match without looking like a gospel choir or god forbid a troupe of “sweet adelines”.
