Big Day Out 2010 — First Announcement

BIG DAY OUT 2010: Here’s the first list of performers to play Auckland’s Big Day Out 2010, to be held Friday 15 January at Mt Smart Stadium.
Muse, who BDO promoters describe as the hottest band currently on the planet (does this mean there’s a better band in orbit somewhere?); art rockers The Mars Volta, outspoken pop diva Lily Allen, locals Kora — who are currently in high demand at overseas festivals for their dramatic stage shows.
Then there’s Groove Armada (do they still play ‘At the River’? — that song must be ten years old now), Noel Gallagher’s mates Kasabian, the ever-popular Dizzee Rascal, PNC, Peaches, as well as Ladyhawke, Girl Talk (aka Gregg Gillis from Pittsburgh), Shayne Carter’s Dimmer, hardcore heroes Rise Against, metallers Mastodon, Perth alt-rockers Karnivool, British rockers The Horrors, Gin Wigmore, Powderfinger, Scottish DJ/producer/pop star Calvin Harris, Portland baroque rockers The Decemberists (crank that harpsichord!), Eskimo Joe, The Temper Trap, Minuit, James Duncan (from SJD, Punches, Dimmer) and The Checks.
Funniest part was no David Bowie — after seeing days of bloggers and mainstream media cranking the rumour-mill. More performers are to be announced as the event builds up, so there’s plenty of time for wish-lists and more rumours to be published right through NZ and Australia. And with this much warning, hopefully the western railway line won’t be out of action this time.
Tickets go on sale 9th October at www.ticketmaster.co.nz or from Real Groovy stores — for full show information and online bookings check out the website at www.bigdayout.com
So who would you like to see? And don’t say David Bowie, fer chrissakes…
