Oh, sorry, my mistake. So it was a private road in Stratford with street signs, lighting, a roundabout and surrounded by shops…yeah right.

It was Michael Laws making a late dash to the Maori Party hui on Hone Harawira. He wanted to show his support for a fellow politician misunderstood by the nation. The jump was for the media, you can just see a flag out the passenger side window which says ‘Birds of a feather stick together!’

It’s real, that was me. Car is lightened for track speed and is modified to mid-engine layout. Approaching the roundabout I hit a large cinder block or similar which someone had placed on the road (you can see where the car does a lurch before it enters the roundabout) which threw the car off line and ploughed it into the kerb of the roundabout which combined with my estimated speed of 125 km/h sent the car airborne. Simple really. The car came down more or less on the road and I carried on. It was sweet.

Roundabout picture has to be fake. Most cars have engine in front; so they don’t take off metres into the air pointing upwards; they fly nose down. Not to mention that 500HP rally cars are lucky to get this high over big jumps; and the video only seems to have one image between 6 and 7 seconds for the jump, (possible with CCTV but lead up to the jump has much higher FPS..). Somebody has been playing with FX
