New Zealand’s first Soul Alldayer is set to get the Kings Arms in Auckland grooving on Saturday February 13. The event will feature some of NZ’s finest DJs bringing you their interpretation of Soul music. Kickoff (or is that spinoff?) for the Soul Alldayer is 2pm and the show goes through to 2am. Entry is $25 plus booking fee ($30 door) and tickets are available from Conch Records (www.conch.co.nz) or online at www.iticketexpress.co.nz…
The lineup includes Roger Perry, Manuel Bundy, Cian, Wendy Douglas, Recloose, Chris Cox, Rivers and LP (Lisa Preston) vocal jam session, Hayley J. Hansell (live vocal set), Sandy Mill, Gene Rivers, Mark Robinson (It’s a Jazz thing – George FM), Nic Roberts aka Pommy Nic, Selecta Sam (George FM), 90 (In The Pocket – George FM), DJ Bridge, Steven Shaw (The Reputations – hey that’s me), Ben Anderson, Dustin Lindale (conch.co.nz), DJ Ayesha (Radio Active 89FM), Omega B, Ad.One, Chae Riley (The Soul Melting Pot – northernsoul.co.nz) and The Dukes of Haphazard.
Now on to Still Bill — a new documentary on soul legend and singer-songwriter Bill Withers, best known for his classics “Ain’t No Sunshine”, “Lean On Me”, “Lovely Day” and “Just the Two of Us”. Through concert footage and interviews with music legends, his family and closest friends, filmmakers Damani Baker and Alex Vlack offer a unique and rare look inside the world of Bill Withers.
The first NZ screening of Still Bill will be at the Paramount Cinema in Wellington on Tuesday February 9th, followed by a “Soul Jam” party with the “Soul Affair” DJs and guests. Tickets are $15 (plus booking fee) from the Paramount or online at iticketexpress.co.nz. In Auckland, Still Bill screens Thursday, February 11 at the Academy Cinema in Auckland. Tickets from Conch Records and iticketexpress.co.nz.
