My Mum could knit that: This knitted Karen Walker hat was for sale in Takapuna for $181. Looks a bit like this.

Be yourself, love: The Jennifer Aniston as Barbara Streisand photo shoot for Harper’s Bazaar would make more sense … if Aniston was a singer, not a middle-of-the-road sitcom star.

Fashion trends: Double Denim, wearing two pieces of denim in combo (denim jacket and jeans) is in fashion again. If you wore the chambray shirt before, you can’t revive it and call it retro.

Media FAIL: 1) I watched another intriguing episode of This Is Not My Life (which I will stick with, for now) but laughed out loud at the promo for the next episode. Traditionally, the speedily cut teaser includes a quote from a review, big-upping the show… bereft of a review gushy enough for TVNZ, the quote “well crafted…Artfully acted and directed” whizzed by. Which reviewer said that, I wondered. Thanks to MySky I spooled back to read the fine print – some guy called Peter Iacono. Not a new reviewer but the managing director of international television at Lionsgate, which has bought the rights to both the format and the New Zealand series, and not an impartial reviewer. (read Russell Baillie’s review in the NZ Herald)

2) Bloody charming interview by Kathryn Ryan on Radio New Zealand last week with the 100 year-old twins Alison Hunt and Audrey Duthie, who were both deaf as a post. Ryan, exasperatedly repeating herself and trying to keep a straight face. So delightful I wanted to listen to it again… but wouldn’t you know it, all the charm and realness was edited out of it. Shame. Listen here.

3) Best faux pas of the week had to be when Brent Impey, while refereeing the Laws-Karam debate over the David Bain case, asked who killed the Bains: “Robin or Michael?”

Movie: What was wrong with, “Smarter than your average bear”? This is the actual tag line for the new Yogi Bear movie, filmed in New Zealand.

Creativity: Virus Comix have a fantastic illustration of the creative process.

Video: Giant tortoise having sex (who else would post this for you?)…Is he saying, “wow”?
