Lost Rock — Humble Pie

Humble PieAfter leaving the hugely successful Small Faces in early 1969, Steve Marriott formed Humble Pie with Peter Frampton (Herd – guitar/vocals), Greg Ridley (Spooky Tooth – bass) and Jerry Shirley (Valkyrie – drums).

The new ‘super group’ attracted considerable media attention and quickly decamped to Essex, using Steve’s cottage in Moreton and a nearby village hall for writing and rehearsal…

The Skids
The Skids were an arty punk band from Dunfermline in Fife, Scotland, founded in 1977 by Stuart Adamson (1958-2001, guitars/backing vocals/keys), William Simpson (bass/backing vocals), Thomas Kellichan (drums) and Richard Jobson (vocals/guitar).

They played their first gig in August 1977 and within six months released an EP with the help of a local music shop owner who also became their manager. The record brought the band to the attention of John Peel. This led to a local support slot for The Clash. Virgin Records then signed them April 1978…things happened fast in them days…

Eddie and the Hot Rods were a hard gigging pub rock band from Essex (South East England) that created a classic song and helped birth the UK punk scene.

They first hit the boards in 1975 with a unique version of fast, tough, cheeky rock n roll. Unlike many other pub rock contemporaries (Dr Feelgood etc) they also celebrated teenage rebellion.

In 1976 the Hot Rods played a set at London’s Marquee Club…

After the Small Faces lost Steve Marriott, before Rod Stewart lost his taste and before Ronnie Wood took a ‘short term’ job in the Stones, there was the Faces. And they were undoubtedly one of the best, good-fun rock n roll bands of all time. Born by accident when Wood and Stewart (recently late of the Jeff Beck Group) started hanging around with the ex-Small Faces, a couple of unplanned jams led to a lengthy pub meeting. The rest as they say is history. Very good history…
