True Grit, written by Charles Portis, first appeared in 1968 as a serial in The Saturday Evening Post. It was published soon after as a novel and adapted for the screen with John Wayne as U.S. Marshall Rooster Cogburn. Now Joel and Ethan Coen have turned their considerable talents to it -- the remake is due to hit screens this Christmas. There was a fair amount of eye-rolling around here when it was announced that Seth Rogen would star in a feature film remake of The Green Hornet. But having seen the trailer, which is loaded with gadgets and gentle humour, I'm quite looking forward to it. It's directed by Michel Gondry, with Rogen starring as Britt Reid/The Green Hornet, a role played on 1960s television by Van Williams. Jay Chou plays Kato, the character that kick-started Bruce Lee's career. Also in the cast: Cameron Diaz, Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds), Ed Furlong and Edward James Olmos.
